I have been leading worship in various capacities since 1997, and found my full-time vocation as a worship pastor in 2007. I’ve been serving as the worship pastor at SUN RIVER CHURCH in Rancho Cordova, CA since 2015. My beautiful and wonderful wife Carla and I were married in September of 2002 and we have thoroughly enjoyed the journey of marriage together. The adventure of parenthood began when our twins were born in August 2010, and they have brought so much joy into our lives that we’re constantly talking about how blessed we are.
I was raised in the church and don’t remember a time when I wasn’t aware of Jesus. In high school I started to recognize that there was something different about the staff guys who hung out with us kids at the church youth group. They seemed to be getting more out of life than anyone else Ihad known. Like they had truly figured out what life was all about. I wanted that. I soon discovered what would become my “life verse” – John 10:10 “I have come that you might have life, and have it to the full.” I decided that if Jesus was God, he must know how to live life to the full, so I was gonna follow him.
In college, I discovered what worship was all about. I learned that God really was inviting me into His presence and that I could visit with Him and sit at his feet in worship. At that same time I was learning about the historical accuracy and evidences of the Bible, which solidified my faith and validated the truth I had already known in my heart. I began to lead worship for the college group at my church and to write a few worship songs of my own. I’ve been leading worship ever since.
In 2007 I was invited to make a career out of leading worship and I initially turned it down. I had never felt like this was something I was supposed to “do with my life”. But after about four months of wrestling with God, I started to hear His small voice whispering about how He was the one who gave me those musical gifts and worship leading gifts, and He was the one who had orchestrated all of the incredible leading opportunities I had been a part of. I finally heard Him explain that He had been preparing me for this for a long time, and how this was just who I was made to be. I realized that no matter what I was getting paid to do with my days I would always be leading worship somewhere, because it’s just who I am, and it’s what I do naturally.
I received a degree in Music Industry Studies from Cal State Northridge in 2000. I worked in the secular music business in Hollywood for five years, then wound up in Real Estate Appraising for two years before hearing God’s call to full-time ministry. And I’m so glad I finally heard that call.
I don’t think there’s anything else I’d rather be doing with my life than spending quality time with God, proclaiming His greatness, singing His praises, and being used by Him to lead others into worship. Thank you, God, for these incredible blessings, and so many more!
