The Most Important Habit

“Corporate worship” – it sounds so…business-y…so formal…so blah…

But in actuality, it is (supposed to be) life-giving, grace-bestowing, and uplifting and joyful.  It is the highlight of your week.  When people talk about “living for the weekend” this is what they ought to be talking about!  Participating in your weekly church service should be the climax of your week.  If it not, then you’re either at the wrong church or you’re just doing it wrong.  If your church service is dry and bland, then find a church that is full of authentic, vibrant life.  It’s too important for the health of your soul to be at a church that leaves you bored or apathetic.

However, before you ditch your local community, make absolutely sure that it’s the church that’s the problem and not you. Continue reading

The Benefits of Daydreaming

I recently read CT Magazine interview with Adam Young, who is the one-man band known as Owl City.  He is a Christian, and his words, though not directly quoting scripture here definitely hint at a concept that I believe is quite biblical (see Hebrews 12:2 “…fixing our eyes on Jesus”).  Here’s an excerpt.  Continue reading

Come Thou Fount

This is a classic hymn with some of the most RICH and beautiful and DEEP lyrics I’ve encountered.  A recently led worship as a guest at a wonderful church and was invited to take as much time as I wanted to set up this song.  I was tempted to put together a whole sermon based on this song, but I kept it to a 4 minute introduction instead.

But this is precisely why I created this blog – so I could take the time and space desired to really marinate on certain songs and lyrics and thoughts that inspire worship.  So let’s spend the next few minutes worshiping God by reflecting on these lyrics and analyzing them together. Church Is Optional

I have recently been thinking a lot about the importance of the Church and the purpose of the Church and was reminded of a sermon I preached back in the summer of 2012 on this topic. I reviewed my sermon notes and watched the video and guess what?? I still believe everything I said back then! And I’m just as passionate and in love with the Bride of Christ now as I was then.

Watch the video and let me know what you think (leave a comment below!):

I Need You More

One of my first blogs, back in January 2014 (entitle “I Come Alive“) I shared my love for a song by Kari Jobe called “Run To You (I Need You)” and I described the lyrics as “the kind of prayer I want to pray all throughout the day, every day; it’s the kind of prayer that sets the day right – puts things into perspective and helps me keep my eyes fixed on Jesus.”

Well I’ve fallen in love with another song with a similar prayer.  This one is off Bethel Music’s album “Here Is Love”, it’s sung by Kim Walker (of Jesus Culture fame) and it’s called “I Need You More.” Continue reading
